Wondering how you can celebrate black history with your dancers? The good news, you don’t need to do it in just one month. Here’s how dance studios can celebrate Black History Month on social media all year long.
- Amplify the voices of others.
When you see a black dancer, choreographer or mover sharing their work, you can share it too. This is one of the easiest (and most powerful) ways to celebrate Black History and Black Dance History any day of the year.
When you share another dancer’s work, you’re exposing a greater audience to that work. Not only is that great in and of itself, sharing through a platform like Instagram or Facebook helps the algorithm learn that a users’ content is valuable. Share away.
- Share Black Dance History
How many Black dancers or choreographers can you name? Gregory Hines, Misty Copeland, Alvin Ailey, Katherine Dunham. Those are some of the names that come to mind. But that’s only scratching the tip of the iceberg.
The Nicholas Brothers, Janet Collins, Cab Calloway, Leon Collins, Josephine Baker, Bill Robinson, the list goes on and on. Do your research, share facts, and point your audience down a YouTube wormhole.
